L’Orpheline by Serge Lutens, created in 2014, is a fragrance that defies convention and embraces duality. Let me share some insights about this intriguing scent:

  • Notes: It straddles both cool and warm elements. Initially, you’ll encounter a bright burst of sparkling winter-forest notes—hints of juniper berries, rosemary, and aldehydes. These give way to a chemically sterile, mineralic incense at its heart, reminiscent of the brand’s Eaux series.

  • Concept: The press material surrounding L’Orpheline’s release is more mystical than practical. Serge Lutens himself delves into gender and childhood, exploring themes of conflict and duality. The fragrance mirrors these feelings and keeps me in an aura of introspection like the change of seasons, I enjoy wearing it in the autumn while watching the leaves fall.

A purrfect fragrance that dances between warmth and coolness. Meow!

This could be one of the most popular scents in China and maybe other East Asian areas due to the smoky scent inside it remind people of the solemn temple. Also, there are many people attracted by it due to some introduction to it I am a cold-hearted person, and I am very apathetic so keep away from me. They may just want to use this atmosphere to show their personalities are different from 'normal people', so they may attract more people to want to get closer to them or something like that. But for me, I want to say, if you just want to be attractive to others, then choosing this kind of perfume which does not have the main popular scents may not be a good idea coz they may not match your true personality. The best way of being charming is just to be yourself, you don't need to cater so-called "mainstream aesthetic" to create a profile that is not you at all. But, if you do enjoy this perfume, then you can neglect what I just said.

Talking about the scent of this perfume itself, it has plenty of musk, a smoky scent, and a bit of cool mint. Matching with the name of it: L’Orpheline, I think this perfume makes a profile of an orphan girl who was growing up in the monastery when she stayed beside the sisters, this scent is attached to her body too. If you want to understand how this perfume smells easily, just go ahead to smell a burnt wooden plug of old school kettle, the scent of it is pretty similar to L’Orpheline. This is a scent that is not very well to wear during winter coz the perfume itself can make people feel a kind of cold feeling. Maybe spring and autumn could be better. I don't intend to wear this perfume in summer too. Summer should be a season full of energy and happiness, but this perfume has a sense of sadness and seriousness, so it may not be a good idea to wear it to hang out during summer too.
